Now that the winter holidays are over, it is time for all of us to get back into gear. A break is always hard to say goodbye to, so starting again can be a bit of a challenge. That’s why we have come up with three ways to help you keep focused:
1) Set Goals
Setting goals after a break is key in keeping focused. When we set goals, it motivates us to do the work we have to get done and it encourages us to achieve what we have set out to do in a timely manner. Making yourself a goal-oriented person means dedicating yourself to the things you want to succeed in, and, especially if you are a procrastinator, setting goals makes it easier to accomplish whatever it is you have set out to do. You can set weekly, monthly, and termly goals depending on your specific goals. For example, as soon as you find out which modules you’ll be taking and sitting exams for, set goals for each exam!
2) Find Inspiration
Finding inspiration is a great way to keep your head up, stay focused, and remain motivated. The more we inspire ourselves, the less of a chance we have in losing interest and slacking off. Inspiration is, of course, different for everyone. Some people are inspired by music, others by writing, talking to people, taking walks, sports, etc. Whatever it is that inspires you, take half-hour breaks during the day to do what inspires you the most. If we are fueled by our inspirations, the quality of our work will come out much better, and will be easier for us to produce.
3) Set aside a day of “organising” once a week. Choose one day of the week (does not matter which one) and dedicate about an hour of that day to organising the tasks you have to get done for the week. This might mean writing check lists, marking your calendar, or filing your notes. Whatever the case might be, everyone needs to set aside a certain amount of time a week to organise whatever tasks they have ahead of them, to make sure they remember to get them done, and to complete them in a timely and organized manner. Setting aside a day of the week where you will take time to do this will encourage you to stay organised, and will help you complete your tasks to the best of your ability.
